What to report

Files or links sent through FileMentra that carry malware, try to steal passwords or payment details, contain illegal content, share work you hold the rights to, or arrive as spam. Report the message you received even if the link has already expired: the record of what was sent outlives the files.

Paste it exactly as you received it. We match it to the transfer ourselves.
Required when you have no link, and useful even when you do.

If this form does not work for you, write to [email protected] with the same details. Authorities should use the law enforcement page.

What happens next

  • Every report reaches a person. We do not decide takedowns automatically.
  • We aim to look at reports of malware, phishing or illegal content within one business day, and other reports within three.
  • When we act, the link stops working at once. A send made without an account has its files erased within moments; a customer's transfer is revoked and their own copy of the files stays theirs.
  • We may also refuse the same file everywhere, by its fingerprint, and refuse the sender and their address from sending again without an account.
  • The person whose content we acted on is told what we did and why, and can ask us to look again.
  • If you left an email address, we write back when the review is finished.

What we can and cannot see

FileMentra does not read the contents of customer files. Our staff can see what a transfer was called, the names, sizes and fingerprints of its files, who sent it and to which addresses, and the addresses it was opened from. That is what a review is based on, and it is what we can hand to an authority that asks properly.

For a send made without an account we keep that record for 90 days, so a report can still be investigated after the files are gone. See the Privacy Notice for everything we keep and for how long.

Reporting in good faith

Tell us the truth as you know it. Deliberately false reports, especially attempts to have someone else's lawful content removed, are themselves a breach of the Acceptable Use Policy, and we keep the address a report came from.
